At the beginning of this month, the Building Commission for Christiansborg Palace sent off the corvette Galathea, which will arrive at Leghorn at the end of July, in order to load the crates with Thorvaldsen’s works. Ulrich informs Thorvaldsen about a number of circumstances relating to the transport from Rome to Leghorn: usually the riverboats stay a very long time in Rome during loading; they travel very slowly; it is difficult to determine when they will arrive at Leghorn, and difficult to time their arrival with that of the corvette. Therefore, Thorvaldsen must arrange with the captain of the riverboat that the price includes extra days for loading and unloading and waiting time. Ulrich has places in Leghorn where he can put the crates on the ground, from where they can be loaded on to the corvette; it will be difficult for the corvette to get so close to the harbour that the crates can be transferred directly from the riverboat. Ulrich looks forward to Thorvaldsen’s answer concerning his arrangements with the captain of the riverboat and the number of riverboats he is going to order. He wonders whether there will be any artworks from Carrara, and if so, whether Thorvaldsen will leave the shipping to Ulrich.

Illma; questo Bastimento vien calcolato potere essere qui’ alla fine del prossimo mese di Luglio;VIII mi vedo pció’ in obbligo di entrare in corrispondenza con V.S. Illma sopra tal’ Oggetto, tanto piú che se vede p esperienza che i NavicelliIX stanno p il solito un tempo infinito in Carica a Roma, e p Viaggio avanti di qui’ arrivare, e che é difficile di calcolare sul loro arrivo qui’, oltre che e ugualmente difficile di calcolare quello de’ Navicelli con quello della Corvetta, ció che sarebbe bene di potere combinare per cosi’ risparmiare molte spese p nel Travaso da un Bastimento all’ altro; Quando dunque Ella si risolverá a fare spedire questi Colli, sarei del Sentimento che Ella incaricasse il suo spedizioniere di fissare col Padrone del Navicello Conduttore una certa quantitá de Giorni di Stallie, ed occorrendo Soprastallie, pel caso che la Real Corvetta non fosse ancora qui’ giunta; anche pó cio non bastasse, a me non mancano comodi, e Locali p metterli in Terra, e poi caricarli pel loro destino, p quanto io prevedo che la Corvetta difficilmente potrá avvicinarsi abbastanza al Porto p fare il Travaso dai Navicelli di Roma.
Sentiró volentieri dalla sua compiaccenza in rispostaX quello che Ella avrá combinato con lo spedizioniere di Costì, e se vi vorrá uno, o piú Navicelli p rendere qui’ i detti Colli; ed altresì mi sará grato sapere se vi sono oggettiXI da fare venire da Carrara, e se Ella é incaricato di farmene fare la spedizione; il tutto p mia regola.
