Alessandro Torlonia holds a celebration in Villa Torlonia in Rome on the occasion of the erection of an obelisk in the park of the villa. Among those present, besides Thorvaldsen, are Ludwig 1., Gregor 16., Byron’s mistress Teresa Guiccioli (1801-1873) and the Stampe family.
