Abstract

Thorvaldsen confirms receipt of the letter announcing that a naval vessel will arrive at Leghorn around July 1833 in order to transport his artworks to Copenhagen. Besides the artworks mentioned in an earlier letter, there will be a few other, unfinished works in marble that Thorvaldsen intends to finish in Copenhagen; he would like them to be taken to his studio at the Academy of Fine Arts. His own journey to Copenhagen will “doubtless” start shortly after the departure of the ship from Leghorn.

Document

Rom d. 29 Martii 1833

allerærbødigst
Albert Thorvaldsen

Oversættelse af dokument

From the high Building Commission for Christiansborg Palace I have received a favour of February 22nd this year, in which I am informed that the warship intended for fetching the works of art may be expected at Leghorn during the summer and probably in July. By my letter of November 24th last year, I have respectfully informed the high Building Commission about the works, which I send home in this way and the timely dispatch of which from Rome I shall take care. I only have to remind you that besides the works of art mentioned in my last letter I intend to send home on the same occasion a few other works in marble, which I want to give the final finish during my stay in Copenhagen. Therefore, I should be glad if these works at the ship’s arrival home, could be placed in the studio in Copenhagen which is meant for me. I myself hope to see Denmark again in early autumn, as my departure from Rome doubtless will take place shortly after the royal ship has left Leghorn.

Rome, March 29th 1833

Most respectfully,
Albert Thorvaldsen
