Abstract

Pellew requests that his portrait bust in marble, cf. Edward Pellew, A260, be sent immediately to Civitavecchia, from where it will be possible to send it to England.

Lord Exmouth begs M.r Torveohson will pack up his Bust for Lady William (if ready) immediately he receives this Letter and send it down to Cevitta Vecchia to the care of M.r Dennis the English Consul for conveyance to England. – The Abundance Storeship will remain some time at Cevitta Vecchia to receive some Statuary and some other things for the Prince Regent by which Conveyance the Bust may be sent to England.

General Comment

Formentlig er brevskriveren Edward Pellew, der var admiral og Viscount af Exmouth. Der kan dog lige så vel være tale om en mellemmand, jf. også Sass, op. cit.


Den omtalte marmorbuste af Edward Pellew, jf. originalmodel A260, findes i to marmorudgaver på Canonteign, Devon. Den ene er meget veludført og signeret med Thorvaldsens monogram på bagsiden (se evt. eksempel på Thorvaldsens monogram i oversigten over Thorvaldsens værker). Det andet marmoreksemplar er usigneret og lidt ringere udført, jf. Sass, op. cit. p. 216-217.
