Comment on 14.8.1806
The bust was actually finished quite quickly. Already in his next letter dated 23.9.1806, Thorvaldsen was able to report that the marble bust was ready for shipment. However, it took a long time before the bust was sent on to Copenhagen: It was not shipped until 1825, see letter dated “2.7.1825”:/dokumenter/m101825,nr.74.
