Comment on History of the Archives
Thiele was actually appointed exclusively to take care of affairs in Denmark together with Jonas Collin and Hermann Ernst Freund, but as a favour on the part of the government and King Christian 8. was nevertheless dispatched to Rome (see also Dansk Biografisk Leksikon, vol. 14, Copenhagen 1983, p. 448). Thiele, however, deals with the subject as though he had been appointed by Thorvaldsen to go to Italy to ensure for Denmark the inheritance after Thorvaldsen. See J. M. Thiele: Thorvaldsens Biographi. Efter den afdøde Kunstners Brevvexlinger; egenhændige Optegnelser og andre efterladte Papirer, vol. I, p. III.
