C.F. Høyer.

With pleasure I can inform you that we have all safely arrived here on the 2nd inst. Which I presume you have already learnt by Mr Toelken, whom Huth has immediately written. The reason I did not tell you immediately was that at that time I was not well. Overall, I have enjoyed the journey to this place and during it I have felt better than any of the others. For although we have hardly seen water on the journey the others have been seasick all the time. – For some days, time passed me free wheel without my being able to tell others anything – only this the good friends H and M! have talked continuously, slept or been sick. – What has really pleased me on my journey: is to have seen Tuscany at midsummer. – What a pleasure to see a country cultured like that; why if I on the entire journey through this country had seen nobody I would have imagined that here are people who feel joy at living; and having arrived to the capital of this country I find the same quality – and so I cannot understand or believe my eyes when here I see a certain crowd coming in the magnificent carriages called – L: D: – [?] I seem to see a band of gipsies – Although I always find it bad form in a letter to give an account of a journey and as you know I love the laconic I shall however some other time tell you something of F: – hoping that you will favour me with a couple of lines in response to your receipt of this – After a few hours’ stay here M and F left: for Montenero, Huth sends his kindest regards – Raben as well, who feels very well but for a long time has been indisposed – Today the weather here is horrible – that means a smoke so thick that one does not see the sun – which displeases me a lot since I had believed to be rid of this nuisance here – If letters arrive for me I ask you to be so kind as to read them and then send them to me. Give my regards to Vahl and wherever you find my regards suitable. Take care! Take care! Your friend wishes, who sincerely and respectfully is yours,
C. F. Høyer
