Comment on Thorvaldsen's Spoken and Written Language
Thorvaldsen’s own statements to Baroness Stampe and to the historian H. F. J. Estrup seem to suggest that he did not go to school. Still, it is unknown whether these statements are wholly believable, inasmuch as Thorvaldsen himself seems to have wished to lend support to the myth that he had been unschooled.
