Comment on Christian 8.'s Loan from Thorvaldsen
In a draft letter dated no later than 4.2.1827, Thorvaldsen wrote “a small sum.” Ultimately, however, he decided that this phrase was too arrogant to use with a prince who had fallen on hard times, and excised the phrase from the final version.
