Not later than June 1798
Bacchus, colossal bust, probably a copy after an antique original, presumably modelled and cast in plaster, hardly carved in marble. Unknown location.
- Letter dated 30.6.1798 from Thorvaldsen to Abildgaard (documents the transportation; the bust is not mentioned).
- Letter dated 3.12.1799 from Abildgaard to Thorvaldsen (the only source that mentions the bust).
- Th. Oppermann: Thorvaldsen, Copenhagen 1927, vol. II, p. 36 (asserts that it is a marble copy).
- Else Kai Sass: Thorvaldsens Portrætbuster, Copenhagen 1963-65, vol. I, p. 52 (thinks that it is a plaster copy after an antique original).
