The city of Mainz gives a dinner in Thorvaldsen’s honour at the city hall. Receives the freedom of the city (diploma, N35). Gala performance at the Stadttheater. Cheered from the balcony of the theatre by a large crowd in Gutenbergplatz. Both the square and the Gutenberg-statue are lit by torches. Songs and poems are performed.
