Abstract

Emerson writes in his diary that he has visited Thorvaldsen’s workshop and seen the statue of Byron.

Document

This morning went with young Warren^I and Grant^II to Thorwaldsen’s studio and saw his fine statue of Byron.^III ’Tis good as a history. I saw three or four rooms^IV of stone things, but nothing else to look at. Then to the Barberini Palace^V and saw the Beatrice Cenci^VI of Guido and the Fornarina^VII of Raffaelle.
