Comment on Jason and the Hope Commission
The two reliefs that Thorvaldsen presented to Hope as gifts were A Genio Lumen (The Genius of Art and Light), A828, and Cupid Received by Anacreon, Winter, A827. A further part of the gift, it seems, is that the sculptor had made a new, more timely bust of Hope’s eldest son Henry Thomas Hope, A825, who had visited Rome at approximately the age of 14; cf. Sass, op. cit., vol. I, pp. 296-300.
