Comment on The country bumpkin and the donkey-rider in the service of art and freedom

Compare Fyodor Dostoyevsky’s novel Идио́т [The Idiot], Moscow 1868-69, where the donkey is praised by the main character (the naïve but solemnly good Prince Lev Nikolayevich Myshkin). The donkey also serves to this day as the emblem of the U.S. Democratic Party.
