The all-embracing Cabinet of Curiosities was dissolved in 1825 and the contents distributed to the newly established specialized museums for art, culture, and natural science. The collection of paintings was moved to Christiansborg Palace and opened in 1827; after the palace fire in 1884, it was moved to the National Gallery of Denmark.
