Comment on Thorvaldsen's Works at Hams Hall

Namely, the Alexander Frieze in marble, cf. A505, produced for Giovanni Battista Sommariva’s Villa Carlotta by Lake Como in Italy; see the associated entry in the Thorvaldsen chronology. The Hams Hall frieze was a version of this Alexander Frieze, as is clear from the presence of Thorvaldsen’s self-portrait at the far right. That self-portrait is absent from the frieze at the Quirinal Palace, referred to in the next note.
