Comment on Dying Lion (The Lucerne Lion) - a national-political monument with built-in controversy

I.e., Venus og Amor, which had been completed in clay that same year; cf. the letter dated 19.11.1819 from John Gibson to John Crouchley. A marble version of Tenerani’s 1825 sculptor is found in The Devonshire Collection, Chatsworth; it was presumably acquired by William Devonshire, sixth Duke of Devonshire, who is also mentioned in this letter.
