Thorvaldsens Museum and Faaborg Museum

ENGLISH SUMMARY

Thorvaldsens Museum and Faaborg Museum

In 1900, Faaborg Museum’s architect Carl Petersen had his first sight of Bindesbøll’s sketches for Thorvaldsens Museum. The inspiration was recalled 12 years later when he was assigned the task of designing a museum building for the groups of painters »Fynboerne«.

The similarities are striking – the colours, the floor patterns and the light. The contrasts are fewer – the sizes and the materials. The influence is clear – Carl Petersen erected a museum in which architecture and art became international art on a small scale.
