Felder recounts a tale in circulation to the effect that, in an attempt to take advantage of Thorvaldsen’s weakness for women, Rüttimann sent a young Dutchwoman to ask him to take on the job himself, and for a price estimate; but it has not been possible to find corroborating sources for this story.
