At a party at Nicolaus Esterházy Thorvaldsen is informed of the accident in his Roman studio 8.11.1820. He changes his plans and heads directly for Rome two days later.

  • Letter dated 26.11.1820 from Franziska Caspers to Bertel Thorvaldsen (corroborates that Thorvaldsen got the message on the accident at Esterhazy’s).
  • Report dated 17.12.1820 i Allgemeine Zeitung (says that the party took place two days before the departure, but erroneously dates the departure one day late to the 27.11.1820).
  • Thiele III, p. 88, 92 (states that the party took place two days before the departure 26.11.1820).
