Rome, April 28th 1812
Sir,
The bearer of this letter is Mr Schadow, history painter, son of the famous sculptor in Berlin, he leaves from here for Pisa because of his health which has suffered much here in Rome, it is a pity as he is an excellent person, he is talented and cannot be idle which is why he must tear himself away from here. He wishes to make your acquaintance, Sir. This wish is so natural that I cannot but take the liberty to recommend him which I hope Your Excellency will not resent. –
Once again I have the fever and I am afraid I shan’t be able to finish the works which I have started, I most humbly ask my compliment conveyed to her Grace your kind wife. I hope soon to have the pleasure to see you both in good health, which I wish with all my heart,
Yours,
P.S. Signor Ferdinando Mori is very pleased with your kindness to him Mr Schadow is bringing the 30 copies with him. | humble servant Thorvaldsen |
