Sir,
Having learnt from Mr Malling that the bas-relief with the architecture must be from one block I have selected another piece of marble and have had to start afresh so I must inform you that it will take a little longer than what I have promised even though it is worked on incessantly and when it is finished to whom shall I send it as Your Excellency is leaving soon
I ask you to give my compliments to the poor Laura Zoëga, I hope her health will improve in the good air and your fatherly care, the doctor here fears her disease very much because it is hereditary her mother died of the same.
If that is the case Signorina Laura is happy that she could not see the disastrous situation.
I ask Your Excellency to be as kind before you leave to send me the 3 bas-reliefs which I made in the baths de Lucca, as I want to execute them in marble
It will be needless to ask Your Excellency in which way you could help me when you get to the native land as I am so convinced of your kindness towards me that no opportunity escapes your readiness for my good and I merely wish of all my heart a pleasant journey and that I may have the pleasure to see Your Excellency healthy and happy again in Italy.
humble servant,
A.Thorvaldsen
P.S.
Signorina Cristina commends herself to the kindness of Your Excellency, her studies will stop if you do not give her a hand, much as I should like to I cannot, as I am close to getting into the same difficulties.
