Commentaries

  1. Cupid Complains to Venus about a Bee Sting, cf. A780 or A418.

The subject is taken from an anacreotic verse which describes how, one day, Cupid is stung by a bee as he is going to pick a rose, but when he runs to his mother Venus and cries, she just asks him: “ If the bee’s sting hurts you so much, how much do you think those who are hit by your arrows suffer?”

  2. Probably the Danish sculptor C.F. Holbech.

  3. Hercules and Hebe, cf. A317.

  4. Minerva and Prometheus, cf. A319.
