Abstract Benvenuti recommends the painter Martelli and the writer Janer, who is also bringing letters to Thorvaldsen. He has had a rough carving made of Thorvaldsen’s portrait of him so that Thorvaldsen can finish it on his next visit to Florence. The marble is very beautiful with only minor spots on the chest and at the back of the neck. He expects to be in Rome in the spring together with his wife.

Abstract

Benvenuti recommends the painter Martelli and the writer Janer, who is also bringing letters to Thorvaldsen. He has had a rough carving made of Thorvaldsen’s portrait of him so that Thorvaldsen can finish it on his next visit to Florence. The marble is very beautiful with only minor spots on the chest and at the back of the neck. He expects to be in Rome in the spring together with his wife.

Portandosi a Roma il Sig^r. Martellini mio allievo Pittore che desidera di vedere le vostre belle opere, e unitamente à Lui il Sig^r. Janer di Livorno molto amatore delle belle arti e delle Lettere, che à anche delle lettere p[er] Voi. vi anticipo i mie Ringraziamenti della bontà che avrete verso questi miei Amici.

Il Ritratto che tanto bene modellasti benche da un brutto originale, lo di già fatto fare in marmo, cioè preparare in maniera che in una vostra permanenza in Firenze lo potrete in pochi giorni perfezionare. il marmo è riescito bellissimo e non à che qualche piccolo neo nel petto è dietro al collo.

Nella ventura primavera spero di venire a Roma unitamente a mia Moglie, onde avrò il piacere di abbracciarvi. intanto ho il piacere di confermarmi col maggior attaccamento vostro
