Comment on Jason and the Hope Commission

The two reliefs that Thorvaldsen had presented to Hope as gifts were later acquired via the English art market, and remain in the Thorvaldsens Museum collections today: A Genio Lumen (The Genius of Art and Light), A828, and Cupid Received by Anacreon, Winter, A827. For more on both of these works, the auction of Hope’s collection, and the works’ transportation to Denmark and installment at the Museum, see Floryan, op. cit., pp. 62-65.
