Also the following in the introduction to one of his letters to Thorvaldsen: “It seems to me far too amusing to call the world’s leading artist ‘Your Excellency’ So let me call you my dear, beloved Thorvaldsen, for your name contains more than all your titles, and neither is it demeaned if I add that I profoundly honour and love it.
