Comment on Jason and the Hope Commission
It has not yet been possible to locate a pronouncement by Bonstetten about Thorvaldsen’s Jason to this effect. The basis of Steinlen’s account is thus unknown. Yet Bonstetten undoubtedly saw Jason during the winter of 1802-03, presumably together with Friederike Brun, inasmuch as he makes reference to it; cf. the above excerpt from Bonstetten’s letter to Brun, dated August 25, 1803.
