  • Letter dated 12.6.1819 from Heinrich Keller to Karl Pfyffer von Altishofen (from this it appears that Thorvaldsen was informed that he was awarded the order the day before, i.e. 11.6.1819).
  • Newspaper report dated 16.9.1819 in Wiener Zeitung (refers to the official appointment dated 10.6.1819).
  • Letter dated 19.6.1819 from Brøndsted to Holger Halling Aagaard (from this it appears that the order was awarded at the Emperor’s departure from Rome. According to Friedrich Noack: Das Deutschtum in Rom seit dem Ausgang des Mittelalters, Berlin & Leipzig 1927, vol. II, p. 182, this took place on 11.6.1819).
  • Newspaper report dated 25.6.1819 in Allgemeine Zeitung (claims that the date was the 11th of June).
  • Letter dated 30.9.1819 from Frans 1. to Thorvaldsen (from this it appears that the order was awarded earlier that year).
  • Letter dated 9.12.1819 from The Danish Ordenskapitlet to Thorvaldsen (obtains permission to wear the Order from the Danish king).
