Prinsen ventes at være i Rom i Januar d:a.
Deres tro hengivne H.E. Freund.
Prince Christian was in Rome for the second time in the Easter holidays with his consort, the Prince was very ill so he has not yet seen Rome and its curiosities, I don’t know whether he has asked to buy works of art, except that he is said to have commissioned a Madonna at a young Italian artist’s [xxxxx]sore Tamberoni is interested in. The Princess lets Pestrin make in shell a complete ornament, comb, necklace and bracelet exclusively after your work. The Prince intends to have a centrepiece made in marble or alabaster 10 to 11 figures and groups 2 palms’ height after your works. Presumably he is waiting for your arrival to think seriously of something big, as Mercury and Venus especially please him he wishes that these two figures could be worked at for his centrepiece 2 palms’ height. I suppose the worst thing is that here in Rome not many occupy themselves with such things. The Prince’s journey to Sicily has been planned for the month of September and landscape painters Dal and Koch are prepared to accompany him there and enjoy the journey in his company, it will, however, be difficult to carry out since the disturbances are so widespread that this journey will hardly come off. The Prince is expected to be in Rome in January this year.
Jensen, the painter, sends kind regards, for the time being he is working at a copy of Madonna de folinio in the Vatican, he has still not sold all his copies, which he last summer painted in Florence.
Here in your rooms all is again in order, they are somewhat empty as I cannot fill them. Your faithful cat nestles up to me since it does not find you. Severine is no longer here, I have done her the last favour I was able to. I do not know where these few lines will find you, but a sincere wish follows with them that you may be well and happy, that you will leave your native country satisfied and will hurry as soon as possible to the place where your presence is of greater importance.
Yours faithfully, H. E. Freund.
