This is a summary of an article in the journal Meddelelser fra Thorvaldsens Museum (Communications from the Thorvaldsens Museum) 1965, p. 76-87.
A description of the Museum’s recent acquisitions: early drawings by Thorvaldsen, a watercolour painting by J.Th. Lundbye showing the entrance to Thorvaldsen’s studio in Rome, two portrait reliefs made by Thorvaldsen in 1793, showing one of his benefactors, Dr. Mathias Saxtorph and his wife. A violindrill – a drilling machine for use in marble of the same type as those used by Thorvaldsen – which has given rise to considerations as to the musicality of Thorvaldsen – has also been added to the collection of the Museum.
