Dear Mr. Professor,

I am very sorry not to be able to give you a complete answer to your letter, If Ørsted’s bust had been begun in marble, which is not the case, I should not be able to finish it myself in less than 6 weeks or 2 months, whereas now if everything went well it would take 3 to 4 months. But as I have to allow for all kinds of unfortunate occurrences which are rarely or never avoided, I must set apart twice as long time.
The price would be 100 Dutch dukats, how much the pedestal would be I cannot tell you right now, it would be entirely for you to decide, and it would not at all be a considerable amount.
If the bust perhaps [?] was to be used at a celebration, which I reckon because you want it so soon, then I suggest at least as the first thing to place a plaster cast which together with the pedestal I should send to you immediately, when it pleases you to inform me about it. It would cost you nothing. –
My wife and I send you and your wife many regards and ask you to remember us to the Bachs if you should see them and please give my regards to Ørsted. –

Yours,
Bissen.

Commentaries
