Comment on Echoes of Antiquity: Thorvaldsen’s Collections as a Reservoir of Motifs

Louise Seidler, Erinnerungen und Leben der Malerin Louise Seidler, in H. Uhde, ed., (Berlin, 1874), pp. 223–24. The three other inhabitants that Seidler mentions are the German artists “Schadow,” meaning Rudolf (1786–1822) or his brother Wilhelm (1788–1862), Adolf Senff (1785–1863), and Karl Wilhelm Wach (1787–1845). Seidler travelled to Rome at the end of October 1818, and Wach moved in June 1819, so her observations must have been made between October 1818 and June 1819.
