Comment on Facing the artist in Rome. Portraits of Bertel Thorvaldsen

Cf. Stig Miss, op. cit., 1997, pp. 181-182: Eckersberg’s portrait from 1820 was a result of Thorvaldsen’s visit in Copenhagen, and was included in a lottery among the members of the Art Society in January 1838. The painting was won by someone named “Rev. Riis.” After that date it remained in various private collections until 1994, when it entered the collections of Thorvaldsens Museum as inv. no. B454.
B419 was bequeathed to the museum in 1855.
